- glucosylation
-
Transfer of glucose residues, usually from the nucleotide-sugar derivative UDPG. Enzymic glucosylation to generate the glucosyl-galactosyl disaccharide on the hydroxylysine of collagen is a normal process. A recent theory suggests that glucosylation of certain long-lived proteins by a non-enzymic reaction with free glucose may contribute to ageing.
